UKC PILATES
SOCIAL SECRETARY
MY ROLE
One of the most exciting experiences I have been a part of is social secretary at the UKC pilates. Kent Student Union was planning to shut it down because of lack of funding and interest with only 5 members in a society.
With a bit of strategic planning we were able to enroll 54 members within the first 4 hours on the first day itself. Within 3 days we hit 100 members to reaching max capacity, and then introduced a social membership which earned the society 170 members in total
Though the problem of low turnout was solved with a 115% increase in membership, we were constantly on our heels to envisage ways to keep up the interest of the members. As a social secretary,I had to shoulder the responsibility of hosting weekly socials which is very popular among the girls. We have a mixed of relaxed social movie nights, cafe socials, sip and paints and even themed events such as Wigs and White lies, Life Guard Night Halloween and more.
Apart from hosting different events, I am constantly manoeuvring with the venue, capacity, hosting the event with a different theme every time, to create opportunities for friends making, games etc. Each event required precision in planning and execution.
